Trails
This out-and-back
starts at the same place—just north of the historic
Santa Fe Plaza—as the Santa Fe Hill Climb Challenge and
gives you about the same mileage without the continuous
climbing to 10,000 feet. However, the ride out through
the village of Tesuque and beyond is still challenging.
This ride, in the rolling hills north of Santa Fe,
offers some of the most extraordinary views in the
area—from the red mesas of the Rio Grande valley, up to
the forested mountain ranges, and toward the (usually)
blue New Mexico sky. Enjoy sweeping vistas of the Sangre
de Cristo Mountains to the northeast and the Jemez
Mountains to the west. Return views include the Sandia
Mountains near Albuquerque. Terrain: Rolling foothills
of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains provide some good,
short climbs. The steepest grade is on the switchback
coming out of Chupadero on the return.
